The future of workplace is flexibility, and food lockers

Food lockers are a safe, seamless solution for offering employees access to freshly made hot and cold food to eat anytime they wish.

The world of workplace is changing. After a year of homeworking, the majority of us are more than ready to return to the office. But, during the last 12-months, we’ve changed. We’ve balanced home-schooling, home-life, and, well, home-everything, with our 9-5. And now we’re seeing a gradual shift to some kind of normality, the spaces we return to must also adapt to this new flexible way of working, with which we have become accustomed.

As Sophie Foster, Workplace Consultant at TSK puts it: “People’s relationships with offices have changed. We crave social cohesion, community, and belonging, which a central space for work can provide us with.”

And, when it comes to the above, nothing brings people together quite like food.

Naturally, the topic of workplace catering in the post-pandemic landscape is laden with questions around health and safety. From social distancing to minimising peoples’ contact with surfaces.

And that’s not to mention fitting in with employees’ individual requirements, including flexible working hours and set days for office and home working impacting on regular breakfast and lunch service.

Therefore, along with the offices themselves, workplace restaurants, cafes and canteens must also adapt to survive. And while it’s difficult to offer complete flexibility on such a large, ever-changing scale, there are technology-driven solutions helping to meet the evolving needs of the workplace sector.

Introducing food lockers

Food lockers are a safe, seamless solution for offering employees access to freshly made hot and cold food to eat anytime they wish.

Using a simple app, menu items are purchased, a pod number is allocated, and an alert is sent directly to the kitchen. Meals are then delivered to the assigned pod and the individual temperature is set. Finally, the customer receives a code to scan at their allocated pod, and the food can be collected.

The collection process removes any need for queuing. Plus, it allows the kitchen to work to its own timescales, and employees-come-diners the ability to plan meals around their own, unique schedules. Food waste is also kept to a minimum, as dishes are made to order.

Already widely used across the pond, hot or cold food lockers are a staple of the contemporary catering facility. However, our pod solution is the very first of its kind in allowing for different temperatures to be set in each locker. It’s a thoroughly flexible product that’s perfect for the new hybrid world of workplace, allowing you to be as agile as the workforce that you serve.
